

Kedarnath temple of the God of the field , is an hindu temple , one of the twelve jyotirlinga of Shiva . The temple is located on the Garhwal Himalayan Range near Mandakini river , in Uttrakhand . Due to extreme weather conditions , the temple is open to the general public only between the months of April (Akshay Tritiya) and November (Kartik Purnima) . The temple is not reached directly and has to be reached by a 22 kms uphill trek from Gaurikund . Pony , mule , manchan services are available to reach the temple . It is said that the Pandavas have built the temple , because they worshipped lord shiva here . There are four templesaround Kedarnath itself – Tungnath , Rudranat , Madhyamaheshwar and Kalpeshwar which from the Panch Kedar Pilgrimage sites . The nearest airport to reach here is Jolly Grant Airport which is 38 kms from the temple and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh railway station which is 216 kms away from Kedarnath , from where shubh yatra tour and travels provides you the facilities related to staying , sight seeing , transfers , breakfast , lunch , dinner , etc . The snow – covered landscape creates a serene and peaceful atmosphere , enhancing the spiritual journey to the sacred temple .
