The Jam Gate and road were built by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar . They used this route to get from Maheshwar to Indore . Jam Gate is also called the Gate of Nimar-Malwa .The top of Jam Darwaza commands a magnificent view of the valley of the Narmada , over 2,000 feet below. The panorama of miniature lakes ,dense forests and green and golden fields from the spot is a view to behold . On its sides are the great Vindhyan cliffs . Far away ,on the panoramic edges rise in dull grey , the parallel ranges of the Satpuras . The spot was an important pass frequented by travellers from the south , as it was the direct route into Malwa . It is approximately 30 kms away from MHOW Railway Station and 50 kms from Indore Railway Station and its nearest airport is Devi Ahilybai Holkar Airport which is located at a distance of 50 kms from the spot , from where Shubh Yatra provides you facilities like sight seeing , breakfast , lunch , dinner , etc. The ambient time to visit is usually during the early mornings, when the whole area is fogged up .One can experience mystical views during the time of sunrise. People can climb atop the gate also after a buying a minimal ticket . Even without it , the view is simply mesmerizing . It is completely bliss visiting Jam Gate during monsoon season . This is a place where you can enjoy the sunrise as well as sun set . Lush green drive will win your heart & the view from top will cherish your heart .
